This is a poor representation, but today we used our giant freezer in the basement for its intended purpose, for the first time.
We heard about this butcher shop place in Buchanan, MI where they sell bulk meat at great prices. We filled the freezer, and I figure we averaged about $1.70/lb. We got just about every kind of meat there is. Bacon, sausage, brats, pork chops, ground beef, steak (yes STEAK - I'm pretty sure I've never actually bought steak because the prices make my frugal stomach squirm and I can't bring myself to do it, but I can do $2.50/lb), boneless chicken breasts, chicken wings. It took about 2 hours to get there, shop, and get back home, and then we had to spend a couple hours separating into meal-size portions. I didn't want a 10 pound frozen pile of bacon in the freezer, or 40 pounds of chicken frozen together. So, that took a while, but now our freezer is FULL of meat, and I estimate it'll save us about $30/week on groceries. That's pretty big savings. I'm pretty excited. I know I'll probably be booed by the meat-haters out there, and I don't know if the beef is grass fed or not. I'm not there yet. So sue me.
MMMM......meat. great job. You never cease to amaze me.
