The Hole in the Wall

YES! we have a doorway!

This picture is standing on the bottom of the stairs looking up at the plastic they hung to try to keep the dust somewhat contained. Here is Derrick on the OTHER side of the wall, getting ready to bust through it.
Bill, peeking through the hole after it was partially cut.
And for the sake of comparison, I'm going to include yesterday's pictures here again. Here is the top of the stairs, before:

Yowza. I probably stood right there and stared at it for about 10 minutes. It's totally mesmerizing to make such a dramatic change. I'm so excited for everything to be finished so it looks like a home and not like construction anymore.

  1. Very Exciting, Jeannine!

We've been toying with the idea of redoing our kitchen ceiling. It is a tiny, tiny kitchen with a really low ceiling now, so I would like to maybe redo it. Just not sure how long we'll be in our tiny little house. Might not be worth it.

Anyways, your inspired me to at least chat with John again about it.

  2. hurray! all your projects are looking - well - like projects! *smile* but doesn't it feel good? oh, it's going to be so nice to have a way into your upstairs rooms from the top of the stairs, not just through the winding other rooms! and your painting is looking lovely! isn't it fun to make your house your own?

  4. Looks good! Be prepared for the fine dry wall dust for the next year or so! It is the small price for getting a project done! :)

  5. Hey, how is the drywall coming along? When we did our house(first time as well) we were too impatient and should have let the putty stuff dry longer. It would have worked so much better. We had small cracks, but still nothing major. We did say that it wasn't either one of our callings to be in the drywall business and we would hire someone if there was a next time. Hope it goes better for you!

Is that your house at the top of the blog page? If so, how beautiful! Bet it has lots of character!
